Volkswagen is partnering the Berlinale Talent Campus for the fourth time in 2007. The focus topic of this year’s Campus, which is being held for the first time at its new location in the Hebbel am Ufer theater complex, is "HOME AFFAIRS – privacy, film and politics". 350 young filmmakers from all over the world will be participating in workshops, lectures and panel discussions from February 10 – 15, 2007. Among the experts attending the events are the Chinese director Jia Zhangke and filmmakers Barbara Albert from Austria, Eliane Raheb from Libya and Hong Sangsoo from Korea.
The Volkswagen Score Competition features at the Berlinale Talent Campus for the third time: under the competition, young composers and sound designers write a soundtrack for three specific film excerpts. This year’s mentor is Oscar-winning film composer Jan Kaczmarek ("Finding Neverland"). The compositions by the three finalists will be presented during the Campus lecture on "Steering emotions" starting at 11:00 a.m. on February 15, 2007. The winner will be announced at the Berlinale Talent Campus Farewell Party.
The Volkswagen Sound Foundation has its own lounge at the Berlinale Talent Campus for the first time this year. Two computer terminals will provide visitors with information on the Volkswagen initiative supporting young music talent, and movie enthusiasts can access films presented at the Berlinale Talent Campus during the last five years at a further four PC workstations. One highlight of this cooperation will be the performance by BenJammin and Data MC, two Volkswagen Sound Foundation newcomer bands, at both the Opening Party on February 10 and the Farewell Party on February 15.
From February 10 – 13, 2007, "Shooting Stars 2007", a European Film Promotion (EFP) initiative, will be presenting 25 European acting talents to the international public at the Berlinale. For the tenth time, the member organizations of EFP have chosen the best and most promising acting talent from all over Europe.
The German Shooting Star 2007 is 28-year old Maximilian Brückner. The much-acclaimed actor, who trained at the famous Otto-Falckenberg-Schule, debuted at the "Münchner Volkstheater" in 2002. He has also produced an outstanding performance in various film and TV productions such as "Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage" Sophie Scholl – The Final Days (2004), "Allein" Alone (2004), "Männer wie wir" Guys and Balls (2003) and has played the new detective inspector in the Saarländischer Rundfunk TV crime series since October 2006.
Volkswagen is providing the Berlinale Talent Campus with four Touareg for the VIP shuttle service and five T5 Caravelle for young film teams. The Shooting Stars will be chauffeured around Berlin in 15 Eos.
