Diesels... They've been known to be noisy, smelly and smoky, but last weekend at Virginia International Raceway, we witnessed a new breed of diesel. To help promote its new '09 Jetta TDI and VW Motorsport, the Jetta TDI Cup Series was born. The series is unique as all the drivers range from ages 16-26 and have no professional driving experience. The youth of drivers makes for exciting races, especially when the only noises from the track are from tires screeching and body panels clashing.
The new four-cylinder turbocharged diesel motor by VW burns clean and is as quiet as a hybrid. But don't be quick to judge its performance, these cars can move! With the tuning and technical work of VW Motorsport, the Jettas are built for the track. Stay tuned for a full report in et about the cars and the race series but for now, enjoy these photos and try to make plans to watch the next race. You won't be disappointed!
