We've been following the build of Florida-based fifteen52's Mk5 Rabbit project for a while now and thought we’d bring you these photos since the car is coming together nicely.
fifteen52 (941.378.9064 or info@155v2.com) is working in partnership with C2 Motorsports from Maryland, since C2 has several turbo conversions for the latest VW Rabbit. In fact, we featured the engine upgrades in the April 2008 issue of eurotuner magazine. And in the May issue we showed photos of fifteen52’s prototype widebody for the Mk5.

Most of the prototype work is now complete, so we decided to offer up a few tasty details on the car’s progress: The flares seen here are for the Rabbit and designed to offer substantially more room for wide wheels and tires – the wheels shown here are 18x10” BBS REs with 265/35-18 Sumitomo tires front and rear. To fit these new flares, the stock bodywork requires major trimming of the wheel arches. However, fifteen52 is also working on a GTI/GLI version that will narrower than the Rabbit version, and will integrate with the OE skirts and valances for those folks not looking to stuff so much meat under their fenders. Up until the Mk4 Golfs, all GTIs were offered with black fender flares and Trim. So they felt the retro nature of its fender flares were ideally suited to the classic-themed Mk5 GTI. The company informs us the first production runs will use a high-quality, reinforced fiberglass material but that if demand is sufficient, they'll move to an OE-style plastic material in the future. No word yet on pricing for the kit, but we're told the target price for a set of four flares and mounting hardware is $800.
