On the news pages of our website (www.eurotuner.com), you can read the announcement Audi made recently to produce a 500hp racing version of its R8 sportscar. It will be eligible for FIA GT3 races and is being made available to customer teams. This represents a new direction for Audi, which has never before offered customer racecars.

The new R8 GT3 will compete directly against machinery from Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Corvette and Lamborghini, among others in the highly competitive GT3 series across Europe and around the world.
Because the GT3 regulations prohibit the use of four-wheel drive, the racing version of the Audi R8 will be rear-wheel drive. Its 500hp engine will transmit power to a new six-speed sequential gearbox.
Visually, the R8 GT3 gets the full complement of racing additions, including the front splitter, rear diffuser and large rear wing to generate downforce on the racetrack. The car will also be equipped with the required brakes, OZ wheels and Michelin tires are fitted on Audi’s official test cars.
This Audi R8 racer is referred to as R16 within Audi Sport and the first prototype recently completed its first laps in the hands of Audi factory driver Frank Biela, in preparation for entry in various European racing series scheduled for 2009.
