According to the British Autocar Magazine, General Motors is working at top speed to complete ‘the base outline’ of a funding agreement with the Swedish government that would give Saab an independent Sweden-based management.
Cash-strapped GM has been looking to dispose of its Saab subsidiary for some time, and GM Europe president Carl-Peter Forster says negotiations could be completed before the end of the month.
It’s important that a plan outlining Saab’s future must be part of the overall viability plan for GM to present to the US government at the end of February.
The Swedish government is reported to have already agreed in principle to provide funding that would see Saab gain independent management and its manufacturing heart return to Trollhattan, Sweden. However, it’s reported the government does not want to take a stake in the manufacturer.
