Just one short week after we brought you our preview of the new Resident Evil 5 video game, and timed to coincide with the game’s global launch on March 13, the developers have announced a new multiplayer mode.
In the regular version of Resident Evil 5, you play Chris Redfield who tackles the zombie hordes with sidekick Sheva. Online, you join with another player in co-op mode to wipe out the mutants together.
However, the new ‘Versus’ mode adds a deadly twist to Resident Evil 5’s multiplayer action, pitting these two players against each other in a contest of survival – a marked departure from the central co-operative nature of the game.
The Versus mode will be released post-launch and will be available as paid digital content via Xbox LIVE or PlayStation Network.
Versus allows up to four players to match wits in online battles across two very different game types. Slayer’s Rule is a point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis. In Survivor’s Rule, players hunt each other!
Players can begin the hunt as Chris, Sheva or other secret characters, and choose from either one-on-one or two-versus-two team matches in either of the two gameplay styles.
Versus will be available on Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network in a few weeks time. It will cost 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE or $4.99 on the PlayStation Network. Versus mode requires you have the Resident Evil game software in order to be played, and a broadband internet connection is required.
