As the most professional race team in the Grand-Am Koni Challenge touring car series, the fleet of Turner Motorsport BMWs sees its fair share of close racing. Currently running an E90 BMW 328i in the Sport Touring class, as well as a pair of E46 BMW M3s in the Grand Sport class, it’s the most successful BMW race team in North America. In fact, it’s among the top teams in the world, getting acknowledgement at BMW’s annual Motorsport gala. So it should come as no surprise that the multiple national champions know how to prepare a car for speed and reliability. It also has some of the best drivers in the game, including BMW works drivers, Bill Auberlein and Joey Hand, alongside Will Turner, Matt Bell and Chris Gleason

With the Grand-Am series organizers using weight penalties to equalize the performance of the cars, it’s designed to ensure the close racing among the various cars. Consequently, the Turner M3s run door-to-door with Ford Mustangs and Porsche 911s at every race. The recent Watkins Glen round on June 8, 2009 saw an epic struggle, with the two M3s slicing their way through the field from last place after pit-stops on two occasions. The action was caught by Speed TV for broadcast, but the Turner Motorsport team captured this in-car footage of the dice between Bill Auberlein and Joey Hand for the lead. With clever editing, they have been able to lay the in-car footage side-by-side to give you a unique insight of the frantic action in the cockpit, as well as on the track. You can log-on to the team’s website at www.turnermotorsport.com or visit YouTube and find a collection of their videos.
