What a day! To be honest, there was a lot less anticipation leading to this year’s Waterfest. Whether it is the poor economy, lack of vendors or everyone saving themselves for H2O International… But today, I was pleasantly surprised. Waterfest 15 started off with a huge bang with a great turnout of Volkswagens, tuners and people.
I stopped by several booths to see nothing but crowds and crowds of people. Some of the more popular booths included Black Forest Industries, NA Motorsports, Unitronic and VWoA.
Perhaps one of the most stunning cars that made an impression today was Phantom Autowerke’s ’91 VW GTI. The Mk2 was complete built from the ground up with a 3.0 Liter VR6. The stroked motor also has Schrick intake manifold, cams, headers and a 2.5” ex
haust. On the outside, everything has been shaved, and then sprayed with a House of Kolor paint. The inside doesn’t disappoint either with Sparco seats, grey suede upholstery and flush stereo system.
I also liked MF Automotive’s ’87 GTI. Also a VR6 swap, the GTI had Techtonics cams, 2.5” Borla exhaust, Revo software, Peloquin LSD and custom motor mounts. The outside sports classic 15x7” ATS Classic wheels, Alpine white respray and Hella lights. The interior is as smooth as butter with genuine Porsche GT3 seats, Auto Power rollcage and more.
Tomorrow will be the main show day and everyone expects a larger turnout. I do as well and can’t wait till the morning comes. Stay tuned with our blogs for updates!
