In eurotuner News we reported that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars had announced the name for its new model series, which until now has been known as RR4 or “baby Rolls”. As we revelaed, the new car will be called the Rolls-Royce Ghost, and production will begin at the company's Goodwood manufacturing facility on the south coast of England later in 2009.
With the production date so close, obviously testing is ongoing and we were able to spy this disguised example on the road.
Ironically, the front grille looks more like the Bentley GT, but the new F01 7-Series style exhaust tailpipes can be clearly seen. Interestingly, the small side windows by the C-pillar were taped over and the shape of the lights were disguised as well, suggesting some changes have been made since earlier prototypes were spied.
As you can see from the other vehicles and road furniture in the shots, this is not a small car. Rolls-Royce had already indicated it wasn’t a “baby Rolls” and we can confirm its scale is impressive and imposing. While not as enormous as the current RR Phantom, it appears taller and longer than the new 7-Series.
The Ghost shares the Phantom’s rear suicide doors and will undoubtedly be powered by a version of one of BMW’s newer engines to improve efficiency – the twin-turbo V8 being one of the favorites, but the new V12 is another option.
