Ahead of the Nürburgring 24-hour race this weekend, Volkswagen Motorsport released a video clip of part of the world’s most difficult race track, aptly named the ‘Green Hell’.
The Nordschleife – the old section of the Nürburgring, which was inaugurated in 1927, meanders up and down through the Eifel landscape – is a maze of turns that makes the hearts of fans and drivers beat faster.
The whole ‘Green Hell’ is shown on a unique video clip, shot by a camera attached to the spoiler of the Scirocco GT24, barely 100mm above the track. It reveals the Nordschleife in low-level flight, just the racetrack, the woods, the blue sky, and nothing else.
The driver of this lap was the Swede Jimmy Johansson, who was last year’s winner of the 2.0-liter turbo class in the Scirocco GT24. He will again contest the 24-hour race this weekend in one of the five Sciroccos.
A second version of the video shows the lap with the driver superimposed to show you how hard the driver works in the cockpit.
