Last Sunday on June 14th, the third annual SpoCom show hit the Long Beach Convention Center. As the only indoor car show remaining in the Southern California area, we had very high expectations for the show. Sure enough, we were pleased with the turnout as over 300 cars competed in the show while many big name vendors showed off their latest products.
Of course, we paid special attention to the European vehicles. We counted over twenty diverse Euros which included familiar faces such as Aaron-Ross Jimenez’s supercharged BMW 330i, Jayare Marquez’s orange BMW M3 and Asuka Designs/HPF widebody and turbocharged BMW M3.

There were some newer players at the show which made the show more interesting such as Daniel Chu’s bright blue BM3 with DTM Autobody widebody conversion, plus 20” DPE wheels, VF supercharger and color-matched system. There was also Juan Vega’s ’00 VW GTI in Tropic Orange with anozied wheels, big turbo 1.8T, plaid interior and much more. Stay tuned for his full feature soon. For Mercedes, John Rhee of TWCompetition showed off a unique CLS with two-tone paint job, diamond-stitched interior and custom carbon work. And finally Team Auto Concept debuted an old Mini Cooper which was rebuilt with a Honda engine, air jacks, custom body panels and more. We’d like to congratulate the winners and commend those who showed for improving the quality of SpoCom. Overall, the show was entertaining and organized. Lots of show cars, plenty of eye candy with a bikini competition and lingerie show, plus no drama to be seen. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
