Day two of Waterfest 15 didn’t bring the cooler temperatures we’d been promised, but it was still far better than previous years. Although the organizers claim the attendance was the same as 2008 levels on both days, we felt the crowds were smaller, which made getting around easier. However, that could have been caused by the wider aisles between the vendor booths…
Just like Saturday, the atmosphere was more relaxed than in previous years. It seems that the absence of the haters, who are encouraging everybody to abandon Waterfest in favor of H2Oi, was a relief for us all. However, we continue to maintain that the health of the VW tuning scene relies on the support of both events and encourage ehnthusiast to continue attending both shows, as we do.
We spent a great deal of Waterfest 15 following the fortunes of Marc Hubert and his 9sec Golf drag car featured in the August 2009 issue of eurotuner magazine. Having set a North American record of 9.19sec on the quarter mile, he was promising the first 8sec pass at Waterfest. However, a series of mechanical and electrical problems meant his journey from Canada was in vain.

With plenty of other battles taking place on the drag strip, we were fascinated to see Forge Motorsport’s new VW Scirocco 2.0T pull up to the start line. What’s more, they’d persuaded Andres Valbuena from VWoA to run against them in his Mk5 R32 turbo. You can read more about it in the October 2009 issue of eurotuner, but the VR6 definitely had the advantage!
Also in the October issue will be a rundown of the best show cars and new tuning products for the VW/Audi community. Of the trends we saw, pink wheels seem to be making waves.
Another interesting wheel treatment was the red and black checker treatment to the wheels on a bright red Audi TT. In the glorious sunshine at Englishtown, NJ, the Audi looked stunning.
One of our favorite cars was Ali Ziaii’s long-awaited Mk2 Golf Rallye with R32 engine and all-wheel drive swap. We’ll have a feature in a future issue of eurotuner magazine.
One car you won’t see is the accident that appeared to have happened between a Mk4 Jetta, Audi and BMW.
The parts had been assembled into a rather tragic concoction that sported an Audi grille, BMW gills and E46-style tail lights. It must have seemed like a good idea at the time…
