The biggest name on the web just jumped ships. Gymkhana legend Ken block, owner of DC Shoes, has switched from Subaru to Ford to chase his rally dream.
The stunt-ace will be driving Ford’s newest products after the Blue Oval secured the talents of one of the internet’s biggest icons. He will attack the World Rally Championship in Ford’s Focus WRC. His Monster World Rally Team will compete in seven rounds of the 2010 championship, using a car prepared by the M-Sport – the same company that builds Ford’s works rally cars. Block won’t undertake the full championship, but will compete in six European rounds plus Mexico. The plan is to build to a full championship challenge in subsequent seasons.
He will also drive this new Monster Fiesta in Rally America as well as the X Games. This is a similar car to the one that beat him in the 2009 X Games, and is also a precursor to Ford’s switch to the Fiesta chassis in WRC for 2011.
The 2010 Rally America Championship kicks off this weekend with Sno* Drift on Jan 29-30 in Michigan. There are six rounds in the series that will allow block to familiarize himself with the car ahead of running it in the world championship program next year.
We will have the chance to meet and drive with Ken, so check out our Youtube site (youtube.com/eurotuner) next week for exclusive footage, as well as a report in a future issue of eurotuner magazine.
