Last month, we walked the Los Angeles Auto Show to see what the car manufacturers had planned for 2010.
At eurotuner, we sought out carmakers who understood and embraced the tuner scene, so we were quite thrilled to discover Mazda’s showcase with its new Mazda 2 hatchbacks.
Ex-Chief of Design at VW of America, Derek Jenkins now works at Mazda and put together three well-executed, themed Mazda 2s for the show. Our favorite was called 2Evil; it was lowered on H&R coilovers, given an in-house aggressive body kit and sported tribute graphics to the Le Mans-winning 787B.
BMW had two of its latest projects and they were absolutely breathtaking in the flesh. Its Vision concept car was inspired by BMW’s F1 experience showing off an exo-skeletal body.
The Vision is powered by a three-cylinder turbo-diesel engine in conjuction with two electric motors, giving it 356hp and 62.6mpg! For bike fans, BMW displayed its S1000RR – a 193hp one-liter monster that weighs just 404 lb.
An updated version of the Up! was also there from Volkswagen. Made for city and highway driving, the concept seats four comfortably and can return up to 70mpg from its diesel-hybrid engine.
VW also unveiled its “Final Edition” New Beetle – the last Beetle before the redesign arrives, which is expected next year. Only 1500 units will be sold.
Audi released its electric e-tron concept (you can read more about it in the News section of eurotuner.com).
Finally, Ford created a buzz with its Fiesta . The new European-built hatch will hit US shores this year, but a few tuners had the chance to play with them first, including FSWerks. Under the hood of its car, the motor featured a turbo kit with 2.25” exhaust. The body kit comes from 3DCarbon and the chassis used H&R coilovers, Brembo brakes and OZ wheels.
