The AWE Tuning in-house Mk6 VW GTI made history last week as it recorded a 12.26sec quarter-mile pass at Cecil County Dragway. With a trap speed of 115.7mph, it’s the second fastest confirmed time for a TSI-equipped car. But for a daily-driven TSI with a K04 upgrade, there’s no other car that has matched it.
Nothing too fancy on the GTI, it features GIAC software and several AWE parts including their turbo-back exhaust, cold-air intake, turbo outlet pipe, front-mount intercooler and TSI boost hose. The chassis has also been upgraded with Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, StopTech big brakes and Dunlop Direzza Star Spec tires.
“I’m particularly proud of this one,” states Chris Dollery, AWE Tuning’s Director of Engineering, present at the record-setting run at Cecil County Drag Strip, “This is a daily driver – a car that anyone can own. Stock engine. Stock transmission. No special software or prototype parts, not even drag tires.”
For the recorded pass, the GTI ran VP109 race fuel and removed the passenger seat and rear seat, the spare tire and the floor mats, standard practice for the drag strip. Of note, a full weight pass was done on 93-octane, and produced results of 12.793 seconds at 112.65mph.
