Back in the day, Porsche's 911 turbo used to have large areas of clear vinyl film on its rear fenders to avoid paint chips on the exposed bodywork from stones thrown up by the front tires and other traffic. It always seemed like a great way to protect your paint and we wondered why other manufacturers didn't do it.
If you're one of those car owners who need to protect an expensive paint job or an older classic, it might be worth considering 3M's Scotchgard Paint Protection Film (PPF). The makers claim it protects from rocks, sand and other debris that threaten the exterior, without altering its appearance. What's more, the makers claim it's clear finish won't go yellow over time.
To show how easily it can be applied, 3M recently filmed an installation video giving installer tips for 3M's Scotchgard PPF. Having watched it, the technique looks fairly simple - if you've fitted window tint, this should be straightforward for you.
