This is definitely an amazing time for fans of racing video games. With F1 2011 and Forza 4 already on the market, and Need For Speed The Run imminent, we've learned of another franchise about to update itself with the arrival of Ridge Racer Unbounded in early 2012.
This old arcade classic has been reinvented several times but now it's bringing something new to the genre with cities you can both create and destroy. Check out the video at www.eurotuner.com and www.youtube.com/eurotuner to see exactly what we mean as the developers highlight the customization options.
As always, the game is about racing. This time you're in a street gang led by Kara Shindo, and you race rivals to expand your respect and turf.
The new physics and effects in the game mean you can cut your own path through the scenery, with buildings accessible to your chosen car in the commercial zone, refinery, port and high-rise area. There is also a new breed of Angel and Devil cars for you to choose from, but it's the ability to create your own city and share it online that really intrigues us.
Unfortunately, we've not had a chance to get our hands on a controller yet, but we hope to change that soon. In the meantime, check out the Ridge Racer video and start planning your city.
Ridge Racer Unbounded will be available in 2012 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
