Gone But Not Forgotten

The end of an era; eurotuner closes but we’ll continue online (and in print!).

The conversation began with “I don’t need to tell you how tough things have been…” We all know the economy took a dump, and at the same time most of us are finding our information from different media. The days of everybody buying several magazines each month seem to be gone, and we have to adjust to changing times. So its time for a new chapter.

As a result, this is the final print edition of eurotuner magazine. We’re going online and hope you’ll come too. It’s hard to not choke over those words when you’ve put every ounce of your effort into something for eight years (6/2004 – 6/2012) but that’s our reality.

We wish things were different but at least it’s not all bad news. eurotuner.com is very busy and being redesigned to improve its look and navigation. We’ll continue to run new feature cars, event reports, tech stories, videos, events calendar, club listings, blogs, news, etc. It will be on your phone, tablet, laptop, etc and whenever you want it. Admittedly, it might not be as comfortable to read on the toilet, but you won’t have to wait a month.

Gone but not forgotten

So if you still want to find an event report, or have your car photographed and featured by us, eurotuner@sorc.com still works. We’ll be doing exactly the same job…

In addition, our very small team – Neill, Julie and I – will be migrating over to european car Magazine to run that. The suits liked what we were doing but couldn’t justify two European titles in the portfolio, so we’re consolidating eurotuner and european car into one magazine.

We’ll be trying to make european car a little more focused on the Euro scene, combining everything that’s great about what we drive, from GTIs to 911s, in each issue.

It might take us a while to transition from the current format to where we want it, but please bear with us. It won’t be eurotuner but it will be as close as we can get it.

If you still enjoy magazines, european car will be a good read for the more broadminded Euro fan. All current subscribers will be automatically transferred over, so there won’t be a lapse in your reading. And new subscribers can take advantage of the discounted rates at europeancarweb.com

Of course, you can still find titles such as Performance VW and Performance BMW on the bookshelves. They’re a great read and also need our support. And when people complain about no European tuning magazine in North America, ask whether they actually bought eurotuner regularly or simply read it in Barnes & Noble, or downloaded scans. It’s no good complaining if you didn’t get involved!

For those who were loyal readers, hopefully you’ll join us online and at european car. It’s going to be a huge adventure and we’re excited about the future.

Before we go, we have to thank all of you for the enthusiasm and loyalty you’ve shown us. We’ve been truly touched by the tales you’ve told, the adventures we’ve shared. We’ve loved being part of your lives and hope we’ll continue to be.

We want to thank all the car owners who shared their stories with us, the shops who opened their doors to us, the tuners, the polishers, everybody who mailed us, show organizers, show attendees and racers – all of you have been a huge part of our lives. We’re moving over and hope you’ll continue to make the journey with us.

I’d also like to personally thank all the staff and contributors who’ve worked on the magazine, from writers to photographers, production to advertising, web to print. It took a team of people to do this and you know who you are.
As always, please visit eurotuner.com for the latest features, events, videos, updated events calendar, Euro news and blogs. It’s a daily dose of eurotuner.
